Telling About You

They Performed an Introduction in very relax and Fun Situation

7/02/2020

It is universally acknowledge that teaching English for young Learners is an essential foundation to the higher level of education. However, there is no specific major which proposed to English for Young Learners. Thus, every EYL's teacher must know the principle of TEYL ( teaching English for Young Learners) . According to Douglas Brown in his book " Teaching by Priciples an Interactive Approach to Language Pedagogy " there are five aspects which must be obtained by EYL's teacher.
Those five aspects are : intellectual development, attention span, sensory input, affected factor, and authentic language.
Refer to the above theory, my class today performed an interesting conversation between teacher-students , between student and student. The purposed of this activity is to aroused the attention span during the teaching and learning. The class mustn't be dominated by the teacher, each of them must have chance to speak !!.
This opportunity is important to build the confidence, to maintain the attention, to encourage the conversation, and to give them experience on how to apply the sentences in a simple conversation.

Thus, to achieve the goal, I provided two questions ( in previous meeting, I shared two questions asking name and age)
  1. What do you want to be?
  2. What do you like ? ( in order to get the answer I provided some flashcards, kids picked two  pictures, hence they would state which one they like and which one they don't like)
Each student has opportunity to be asked and ask. It is very important to make them familiar with the words and the pronunciation.  In every meeting, I used warm up classroom with the song from Mike's Home video on You tube "Hello, how are you "??  .. check it out , they looked happy and fun. At the end of the two hours learning, the kids had already sufficient confidence to perform them self in front of their friends.

 see you next week ...

Teaching English as a Foreign Language for kids ...

located : jl Kalimosodo V no 12 Malang - East Java - Indonesia

Many parents in Indonesia feel upset to the implementation of English for Elementary. In one side, English is important to be taught in very early age, but in the other side English is not a compulsory subject for elementary.
It is  contradiction with the demand on English for the children. English is accused as the learning burden subject in the classroom. However some expert such as Lenneberg had advocated the principle of Critical Period Hypothesis. It is stated that the children will be easy to learn foreign language, and it will be decrease prior puberty. So, In my opinion English should be taught in very appropriate ways ..

Since I graduated from Post graduate of English education, I urged my self to held a private classroom which provided happy and fun in learning English. Teaching is not must be in the classroom, but more than that , the lesson should be closed to the kid's nature.

My first meeting was conducted to introduce my method in teaching English, thus the kids would feel happy and enjoy learning English.
There were ten kids join with this course ( and it will be highest number ), all of them have the opportunity to practice their speaking with the teacher and also to their friends.

I taught two commons interrogative questions : What is your name ? , how old are you ? ..
and the second activity was : introducing the verb Take- and Give , it was conducted apparently with the game using colorful building blocks ..
at the end of the day , they knew how to ask the name and the age
and also they knew how to instruct their friends using the verb Give & Take .....
